Seasoned   Oil 16 x 20   (GA)
Private Collection

Supple, perfect fit, experienced, a seasoned friend. And just when we're comfortable, at the top of our game, we start falling apart — go figure. Wait. There is more: Those who wait on the Lord will renew their strength! They shall mount up with wings like eagles! They shall run and not grow weary! Thay shall walk and not faint! Isaiah 40:31

Keepsake   Oil 9 x 12    (GA)

Light itself predominates my painting. Light, along with my imagination, illumines and reveals the inherent beauty of the simplest forms. The fall of light upon an object at a given moment accentuates it's presence with shadow and highlight, transforming it from ordinary to extraordinary, becoming an event of light: dramatic, wonderful, a lavish array of tactile details, form, and color.
I know I am going to paint an object when, by virtue of the play of light, it transcends mere physical form and utilitarian purpose. It is no longer an object by name (vase, rose, cloth, wood) - it becomes charmed by the quality of it's own unique presence. In a snap of indifference, however, it can retreat from that magical summit to a bland, nondescript, uneventful ordinariness. My paintings embrace the significance of an ordinary thing in an extraordinary moment.

Love Worn    Oil 16 x 20    (GA)
Private Collection

Jonathan and I would scramble on the kitchen floor for hours, creating a wooden Gordian knot of track, switches, bridges and tunnels. We were building something else along the way. This worn little toy says it better than I can.

Autumn, Again   24 x 30   (GA)
Private Collection

An abondoned corn field was my back yard growing up in Cincinnati. Remember those days . . . ?  Playing ball, everyday, all day, all summer. Hot, humid, swinging for the 2nd fence across the wheat field. Boys of summer. Days of dreams. Then,  . . . autumn, again.
